The Design Committee works to get the program, and its members, in top physical shape, and to create an inviting downtown atmosphere. The committee creates this atmosphere through attractive window displays, parking areas, building improvements, street furniture, signs, sidewalks, street lights, and landscaping, which conveys a positive visual message about the commercial district and what it has to offer. Design activities also include instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district, enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, and long-term planning.
This committee is responsible for aiding independent business and property owners in adopting a specific approach for physical improvements through design education, design advice, planning, and motivating with incentives and key projects.
This committee oversees: Public Spaces, Building Improvements, Design Education & Technical Assistance, and Design Regulations/Enforcement.
